Welcome Back! Season 3 Opener!

Happy! Well, probably happier than Tandy/Phil looks here!

Okay? Who needs a recap? This guy! In case you forgot, in the second season finale (30 Years of Science Down the Drain), we were left with a cliffhanger of Pat Brown showing up with two new people, but our Malibu crowd has no idea who Pat is, or just how crazy he is.

And of course, blue safety suits don't say "Hug Me!" so we have no idea how this is going to go...and then we had to wait until tonight to find out. Well, they spot the blue hazmat suits and the guns, and well, they freak out. Just a little.
Okay, they freak out a lot
Which means they are going to run (after getting Melissa out of the stocks), but, in a great bit, Todd has lost his keys to the A-Team van (the keys have a Mr. T icon with a perfect "Pity the Fool" voice, and they are forced to arm themselves.

Which leads to the most character accurate move of the entire episode. The arming of Gail.

Yes, this is weaponized Gail.

This is my favorite kind of humor. It's funny, because the character is acting as they normally do in a new situation, and although you expect it, it still gets you!

What happens? The "Blue Man Group" comes in with machine guns and everyone is hiding, until Melissa and her shotgun confronts them and, well, Melissa shoots one of Pat's people and kills one of them... and
Not Don! Betty? wait.
Like last year, Last Man on Earth gives a solid surprise, and then kills them. Quick. Clean. Boom. For those of us who love to watch TV, these little bits are absolute jewels! Goodbye Darrell. We didn't know you at all.

Those people Melissa doesn't kill are accepted in the group, and Tandy takes an instant liking to Pat, who is clearly not alright, and everyone else knows it.
When Tandy and Pat bond, it's explosive!

Lewis (played excellently by Kenneth Choi) finally tells them Pat is clearly dangerous, but Pat is doing well (he even takes off his hazmat suit), until he sees a picture of Mike, which makes Pat freak out, grab the shotgun and threaten everyone.

To the van!

Okay, this is from the old show, but it is too cool not to add.
Our gang, and Lewis, escape to the van, and well, Todd ran over Pat. He worried about Melissa being fazed by killing Darrell (she wasn't. She was Draper cool), and after Todd was forced to run over Pat, Todd was clearly upset. Credits.

This was a great start to season 3! I hope you liked it as much.

Even in a panic, Carol has her priorities.

Lewis comforts no one.

Last Man on Earth Easter Project

Hello, fellow L-MOEs!

TL;DR: Grab sharpies and decorate real or fake Easter eggs like Phil's ball friends for fan points!

So this happened today:

Which led to Philip Lord calling me out:

I mean, what would YOU do, right?

So I had my grandparents take me to the Hobby Lobby in Fort Worth, Texas. I'm not into boiling eggs, so I hit up a craft store. I mean, who can eat a carton of hard-boiled eggs before they go bad? And then there's that whole dyeing bit.

Anyway: what is going on in the Hobby Lobby? These are the Easter baskets on sale:

Here are my purchases, along with Hobby Lobby's counter top impulse aisle. That's all you need, these colors of eggs and some blue, red, and black sharpies.

So whatever, I got home and started working in the van with the windows down, since the sharpie odor would bother my Grandparents. Here's Kevin providing help and moral support (I won him at the #LastStuffOnEarth vending machine in Dallas!):

You can take the faces from FOX TV's "Last Man on Earth" ball friends bracket if you want: http://www.fox.com/the-last-man-on-earth/phils-best-friend-bracket

Here's today's group: Kevin (green), Kevin (tennis ball), Jerry (brown), Kevin (green, I really like Kevin, okay?), Jimmy (orange), Trent (green, 1/3 of Terrance Trent Darby), Dashiel (blue), and Gary (white).

Anyway, I know I called this thing an Easter project, but feel free to join in if you're from a different religion. This is just about a man and his ball friends, and not really anything more!

If you draw a crude face on even one oval object, (or heck, any drawing at all, the fan art is beautiful), please tweet a photo to @PhilipLord @ChrizMillr @OrvilleIV @LastManFOX @LastManWriters @LastManFans.

I love retweeting fan stuff in general, so always feel free to hit me up, y'all!

Love,
@LastManFans

“Last Man on Earth” First Look: SNL Alumnus Will Forte Scores Big Laughs

The phrase, “There’s never been a show like this one on television” is overdone, but it’s absolutely true in this case. “Last Man on Earth” follows the life of Phil Miller after a virus kills off all other humans. In fact, there are no signs of life anywhere.

The literary and film tradition of post-apocalyptic fiction falls into a combined sci-fi and horror genre, but in the hands of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (producers of “Lego Movie” and “21 Jump Street”, and donators of the title character’s name), the show blasts your senses with one giddy rush after another. The world is Phil Miller’s joyous playground, and he acts out the most fantastic, anarchic, teenaged fantasies. Steal several Rembrandts and Monets? Check. Bathe in a baby pool full of margarita mix with salt on the rim? Check. Go bowling in a parking lot, with an escalating montage of bigger objects and stakes? Check.

Another comedic technique, a film version of joke setup and punch line, is a hyperbolic statement of “I would never do that!” with a cut to black, then a title card showing the passage of time, and then the aftermath. In this vein, there are some great jokes involving the movie “Castaway”, and also junk food.

Every joke lands. It’s like watching Olympic Ice Skating.

The writing bench is stacked with comedy stars Will Forte (Star, creator, and former “SNL” cast member), Andy Bobrow (Writer for “Community” and “Malcolm in the Middle”), and three SNL veterans: Emily Spivey (“MADtv”), Jonathan Solomon (“MacGruber”), and Liz Cackowski (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Community”).  This writers’ room, coming up with all these gleeful anarchic stunts, is running at full creative potential. There are many ways this experiment could have gone wrong, but it all worked, and that is completely in the hands of the writers. It just works.

In a world full of reboots, it’s vital that original ideas get pushed to the foreground. Please tell everyone to watch “Last Man on Earth” on Fox, Sundays starting March 1st, 9/8pm central. Tell them it’s funny, and that Will Forte’s going to win their hearts.

I wasn't kidding about the Rembrandts!

Watch Last Man on Fox, Sundays starting March 1st at 9/8pm central!

Hello!

Well, I pretty much said everything I needed to say in the title.

Early reviews of "Last Man" are very good, and I want y'all to watch it with me.

It's about a man named Phil Miller (Will Forte, of SNL fame), and it answers the question, "What would you do if you were the last man on Earth?"

Early reviews out of the Critics' Association panels from January 2015 mentioned Phil smashing up stores, stealing artwork, and singing the National Anthem to an empty stadium with a megaphone.

Also, the producers are Philip Lord and Chris Miller ("Lego Movie"), and one of the writers is Andy Bobrow ("Community").

Here's the first trailer:

I'd love to connect with other fans as this show airs; I can't wait to see it!

Love,
@LastManFans
